Hi, I'm Keri
In high school, at Vanguard, they offered a black and white photography class as an elective. That's where it all started. I still have the first prints I made, and the photo that made me want to create art with photos. It was a simple pine tree, but I played with angles until I found the leading lines and the depth of field in the sap dripping down. Later, as I watched the image appear like magic in the darkest of rooms, it all clicked into place.
The Curio - from the start
I moved into my first commercial space in 2017, sharing an office space with a local birth center. I needed space to think, edit, and meet clients. Without this first space, I would have never grown in the direction I did with photography. With their support and encouragement I began photographing births, more newborns and even more maternity clients. Soon, I had out grown my little office and moved into my first studio. It was almost a whim to apply for the space. I figured that no commercial space was going to lease to someone like me, with very little capital and even less experience with commercial spaces. Fortunately, I found a home with Neighborhood Workspace and have since moved to a bigger space.
That's when I met Jordan, my next door neighbor and began to get more involved with the local art community. Before I knew it, I was enjoying the art gallery opening that were next door, lending my space to bathroom use and extra storage. And with his encouragement, I started to plan my first show, Bloom. The art show would revolve around one of my favorite things, flowers. I invited a few local photographers to join me and we had a lovely time. This art show has inspired me to continue hosting them and open my studio and gallery space to other photographers.
